Publications
Fifty-two papers in peer-reviewed journals between 2006 and 2026, grouped by subject rather than listed by date. Most of them come out of questions raised in clinic: whether a drug is working, why one patient needs surgery and another does not, and what patients understood of what was said to them.
The full and current list is kept on Google Scholar, the NCBI bibliography and ResearchGate, all three updated as new work is indexed. The ORCID record is 0000-0003-2623-1336. Each title below links to the paper through its DOI.
Citations
Google Scholar, as at September 2026. Scholar counts conference abstracts as well as journal articles, so its totals run ahead of the 52 PubMed-indexed papers listed below.
Inflammatory bowel disease: treatment and drug monitoring
Which drugs work, at what dose, in whom and for how long. Much of this work is on thiopurines and on measuring drug levels rather than guessing at them, which is the difference between a treatment that is genuinely failing and one that was never dosed properly.

Inflammatory bowel disease: who gets it and what happens next
Population studies on how common inflammatory bowel disease is, what raises the risk of developing it and what predicts surgery or a more difficult course.
Endoscopy, Barrett's oesophagus and bowel cancer
Finding early cancer and precancerous change and removing it without surgery. The Barrett's and duodenal work came out of his time at Westmead.
Liver disease
Hepatitis B treatment outcomes and the overlap between primary sclerosing cholangitis and inflammatory bowel disease.
Patients, communication and access to care
What patients actually experience: disability, adherence, the mismatch between what a gastroenterologist thinks was agreed and what the patient heard, and the psychological load of a chronic gut condition.
Earlier work
Obstetrics and public health research from earlier work with the University of Colombo.
