About this location
Norwest is where most patients from the Hills District are seen. It is also the closest of the four to Norwest Private Hospital, where A/Prof Kariyawasam is a visiting medical officer and where he runs regular endoscopy lists, so a consultation and the procedure that follows generally happen within a couple of kilometres of each other.
Complete Health Australia is a multidisciplinary specialist group in Western Sydney that A/Prof Kariyawasam co-founded and of which he is a founding director. Dietetics, nursing and other specialties consult from the same rooms, which is useful in inflammatory bowel disease, in weight management and in fatty liver disease, where the medical and the dietetic parts of treatment work better together than apart.
Consulting days
Consulting days vary between the four locations and change from time to time. Phone the rooms for the current schedule and the next available appointment. Reception is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Where procedures are performed
Colonoscopy, gastroscopy and therapeutic endoscopy are performed at:
- Norwest Private Hospital
- Macquarie University Hospital
- Pennant Hills Day Surgery
Patients seen at any of the four consulting locations can be booked at any of these three, so the choice is about what suits you rather than about where you were seen. A/Prof Kariyawasam is a visiting medical officer at Norwest Private Hospital and at Macquarie University Hospital. There is more on what a colonoscopy involves and what it costs on its own page.

Common questions about this location
Where will my colonoscopy be done if I am seen at Norwest?
Wherever suits you best of the three: Norwest Private Hospital, Macquarie University Hospital or Pennant Hills Day Surgery. Patients seen at any consulting location can be booked at any of the three. For most people seen at Norwest the convenient answer is Norwest Private Hospital, a few hundred metres from the rooms, where A/Prof Kariyawasam is a visiting medical officer and where most of his lists run. The facility is confirmed when the procedure is booked, not left to the day.
Do I need a referral, and how long does it last?
Yes. A referral from a GP lasts twelve months, and one from another specialist lasts three months. Referrals can be emailed to the practice, faxed or brought to the appointment. If yours is marked urgent, say so when you call so it can be prioritised.
Is there parking, and does it cost anything?
Two hours of free undercover parking is available on site, which covers a consultation comfortably. Paid parking and unmetered street parking are available in the surrounding Solent Circuit buildings if you need longer.
How far is Norwest Metro station?
About a ten-minute walk. Norwest is on the Sydney Metro North West line, with services every few minutes across the day and direct trains from Rouse Hill, Epping and Chatswood.
Which suburbs do most patients come from?
Most patients seen at Norwest travel from the Hills District: Bella Vista, Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill, Kellyville, Glenwood, Stanhope Gardens and Winston Hills, along with Blacktown and Seven Hills. Referrals are welcome from any suburb.
What should I bring to the first appointment?
The referral, a list of your current medicines, and any previous results that are relevant: blood tests, scans and the report and photographs from any previous colonoscopy or gastroscopy. Previous endoscopy reports matter more than most people expect, because they often decide what needs doing next and when.
